for applications: Sponsorship to attend the 2nd FAME General Meeting during the 26th African Health Sciences Congress

FAME (Forum for African Medical Editors) and the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) invite African Medical Editors or Reviewers to apply for a sponsorship to attend the 2nd FAME General meeting.
The Forum for African Medical Editors (FAME) was established in October 2002 in Geneva, Switzerland. The main goal of FAME is to promote high standards of health research publishing in Africa. Its major objectives are to:
- Facilitate co-operation and communication among editors of medical journals through out Africa
- Improve editorial standards and promote professionalism in medical editing through education, self-criticism, and self-governance.
- Promote research in peer review and medical editing
Since its inception, FAME has been active in various activities such as training. Training sessions for editors and reviewers have been held in Ethiopia (2003), Mali (2004) and Uganda (2005), thanks to the support of the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR). Various reports and guidelines have been produced and are available on the
TDR

The 2nd FAME General meeting and the 2nd Board of Trustees meeting is expected to bring together editors and reviewers of African peer-reviewed medical journals as part of networking and sharing of experiences. It will also give FAME members a chance to participate in the
26th African Health Sciences Congress. A symposium on peer review and authorship is planned. The main objective of the symposium is to discuss pertinent issues relating to African medical journal publishing with a view to improving their quality.
Eligibility
Those eligible to submit applications include:
- Editors of a current peer-reviewed African medical journal
- Members of an editorial board of a current peer-reviewed African medical journal
- Members of an editorial Board of a forthcoming peer-reviewed African medical journal
- Reviewers of a peer-reviewed African medical journal
The application should include:
- Full name with the family name underlined
- Nationality
- Name, full mailing address, phone number, fax number and e-mail address of the peer-reviewed medical journal represented
- Position in the journal
- Personal E-mail
- A short note explaining your reasons to attend this meeting

A sub-Committee of the FAME Board of Trustees and TDR scientists will review the applications and the results will be communicated by
